Troy Charf - Head Varsity Coach

Coach Charf graduated from Pius in 1992 where he was a 4 year letter winner in baseball, as well as both an All State and Super Stater.  He also lettered 3 years in football, and was an All Stater his senior year.  He went on to play baseball at UNO for four years.  While there he was both an Academic All American and an All Conference player.  He was a co-captain his senior year.  Also, during his senior year he was a member of the Student Athletic Advisory Committee.

While still attending UNO, Coach Charf began helping coach Pius’ Junior American Legion Baseball team, at that time known as Peed Publishing.   He spent two years as an assistant and four as head coach at the Junior level.  From there he took over as the Head Senior Legion coach for Pius’ Senior Legion team.  In addition, in 1997 he became an Assistant Coach for then Head Coach Jim Hansen during the spring season at Pius. 

During the time Coach Charf has been a coach at Pius, his teams have made it to the State Tournament 6 times, and won one State Championship.  Also, during his time coaching at Pius, approximately 26% of all his players have went on to play baseball at the college level.

                In addition to baseball coaching responsibilities, he was also an Associate Scout for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays from 2001-2006.  He is also involved with several youth baseball camps and clinics.

Currently he is a Social Sciences teacher at Pius.  He is the Recycling Club sponsor, and works closely with Student Vote.  Addition to coaching baseball, he’s also the Head Freshman Football Coach.  He has been married to his wife Micki for almost 8yrs.  They have one son, Tanner.  They also have 2 dogs, Justice and Maddux.

Steve Selk - Head JV Coach

          Coach Selk returns for his fifth year after joining the program in May 2004. Before coaching with Pius X he served as co-head coach for one year with the Fairbury Senior Legion team.

          After graduating from Fairbury High School in 2002, Coach Selk began his college career at Hutchinson Community College in Hutchinson, KS.  After spending only a semester there he joined the Nebraska Wesleyan University baseball team where he was a starting pitcher. 

          This past May, Coach Selk earned his bachelors degree in business administration from NWU.  He has since decided to go back and finish his teaching endorsement requirements, and is student teaching at Pius X this semester.  He and his wife, Stacey, reside in Lincoln.

Jeff Woita - Assistant Coach

Coach Woita attended North Bend HS where he lettered 4 years in track, 4 years in basketball, 2 years in football and he played 4 years of Legion baseball.

In college, coach Woita lettered two years in baseball and basketball at Bellevue University and he also lettered 2 years in baseball at Kansas State University.

He served 2 years as assistant coach at Lincoln Southeast, 1 years as head coach of Exhaust Pros, and 5 years as head coach JC Brager senior legion (2002-2006) with overall record 152-82.

Coach Woita and his wife, Marcy, have four kids, Jase, Aly, Ian & Dax.

Brian Drake - Assistant Coach

Coach Drake attended Waverly High School and graduated in 1993.  While in high school he played basketball, ran cross country, and played American Legion Baseball.   He then played baseball from 1994-1997 at the University of Nebraska - Omaha where he was a pitcher/pinch hitter.  He received all conference honorable mention in 1995 and was a co- captian in 1997.  He graduated from UNO in 2000 with a degree in General Studies.

While attending college, Coach Drake began his coaching career as an assistant coach for the Waverly Juniors in 1994.  He served as the Waverly juniors head coach in 1995, as assistant head coach of the Waverly seniors in 1996, and as head coach of the Crete seniors in 1997 and 1998.  He was also the head coach of Salina, KS Babe Ruth in 2002.

Currently, he holds the position of Commercial Claims Specialist with Allied Insurance where he has worked for 7 years.  He and his wife Stephanie have one son named Drew.

Gene LeDuc - Assistant Coach

Coach LeDuc attended Pius X High School and graduated in 2004.  He played one year of college baseball at Missouri Western State University and one year at UNO.  His UNO team was the first to win its regional and make the Division II World Series.  He is currently attending UNL majoring in Photography.

 

 

 

Austin Elm - Assistant Coach

Coach Elm is from Columbus, Nebraska,  He went to Columbus High School where he played  football for four years, and baseball for three years.  Coach Elm is currently attending the University of Nebraska-Lincoln,  where he is a sophomore majoring in Secondary Education, for social sciences.
